Corporate Design

Using a design that is both creative and functional is a style that the designer strives to achieve every time when designing corporate offices. Branding the offices are equally as important as the comfort of the team members when working in the office. In this project, the shell of a Calgary building was given to create an office space. The use of colour and concept drastically changes the look and feel of a professional workspace. The concept of this design is diversity which is relevant to Canada since this nation is known for being a multicultural society.

The contemporary feel within the office allows an up to date look and the coolness allows the workers to feel more productive in the space rather than a warm colour. This is a perspective of the Reception and Waiting Room located in the Calgary Office. Some of its highlights include a metalic flush design on the ceiling to look like a map and the glass partitions located at the back East wall to shine into the space in the morning.

The windows allow lots of natural light to flow through the space during the day. The colours are used to promote diversity within the space and allows visual interest to the users. Some of the words within the space are there to allow inspiration for the workers.

Hospitality Design

Silva, a group project for a restaurant design. With the help of Cassidy Roylance and Morgan Barnes, Silva, a Spanish restaurant, was created. It was inspired by the many works of Gaudi and other Spanish inspiration. The floor plan, focussed on the different curves from the inspiration photos.

The curves in this Spanish restaurant continues through the ceiling and wall features as they are created using wood. Other architectural components include the curved staircase. Throughout this project, the design was solely based on the curves of nature.

It is clear to see the curves in the wall as it turns into a booth for customers to relax and enjoy a nice meal. They can look up and admire the tall ceilings which also include the wooden curves or they can look to the back and admire the original mural designed by Morgan Barnes.

The curves continue out into the patio to create a romantic setting at night. The elegance of a late night dinner was the ultimate goal for this team of designers.

Retail Design

Branding a store needs bold colours and clean designs for flow and traffic patterns. This was considered by the designer in this store. This is a floor plan of the Cartier store project. The design was inspired by the branding that Cartier stores have to offer. Some highlights of this design are the private viewing rooms for customers and the circular display cases which are both present in the branding for these high-end stores.

Simplistic and circular design is the style of Cartier. Throughout this project, it was clear to notice that the primary colour for this store was an elegant red. In this perspective of the display area, the circular display cases and chandeliers are a primary focus of the space. By using the accent colour of the wood with the red wall, it creates a feeling of warmth within the store.

Technical Drawings

Technical drawings are important to provide accuracy to any project. The details within these drawings provide more information on materiality and fixtures that are needed to build these designs. This project is a prime example of a universal washroom that is specifically designed to meet the needs of those who use it. This project focused on using the Ontario Building Code to successfully complete a washroom design with all the components of a technical drawing.

Building a design contains many components that the designer has to consider. These drawings are more important than any conceptual design to make sure they work. This project identifies each building component to a one storey house, starting from the concrete foundation, and working up to the roof and shingles. This project required a lot of technical thinking and accuracy to the Ontario Building Code for a standard home.

Renderings

Renderings

One of the best ways to understand three-dimensional space is through renderings. The use of light and shadow create the illusion of depth and texture.

Colour is an important factor when considering three-dimensional space. It bolds the object or room and helps the clients understand what it will look like.

They also help clients understand proportion and size of the objects and space when there are people in the renderings. The designer will consider this when looking at a rendering to make it easy to read.
